If you’re a Canoeist, this tour is a must!
DAY 01
Arrive Manaus, where you will be met and taken on a guided/driven city tour. We will visit the famous Manaus Opera House, the Municipal Market, the Museum of Natural Sciences, and INPA (National Research Institute of Amazonas). At lunchtime we will board our riverboat and head for the magical “meeting of the waters” (the Amazon and Rio Negro rivers) not far from Manaus. We will also visit Lake January located in the peninsular formed by the meeting of the two great rivers. A short jungle walk takes us to a small lagoon filled with giant Amazon waterlilies. Often in this area we see monkeys, iguanas, river dolphins, alligators, morpho butterflies and many birds. From the Amazon river we head up the Rio Negro in our boat, fully outfitted with food, drink and equipment for our groups canoeing adventure. We will travel 3 hours to our family run lodge, located on private rain forest property before the first of the Anavilhanas islands. Our first night will be spent at the lodge.
DAY 02-07
Early our second morning, after breakfast at the lodge, we will begin a 6 day/5 night canoeing and camping trip to explore a number of diverse environments including the Anavilhanas Archipelago (2nd largest group of fluvial/river islands in the world), the terra firma rainforest of the left bank of the Rio Negro river (richest rain forest in Amazonia), smaller tributaries of the Rio Negro river including the Arara, Jaraqui and Tucuman rivers and one larger tributary, the Cuieiras. Features of this tour include: beach and jungle camping, hiking, fishing and swimming side trips, and visits with local river people (Caboclos)
DAY 07
After lunch the 6th day our group will be picked up near the mouth of the Cuieiras river by our boat and we will return to Manaus. Farewell dinner at the Bufalo BarBQ restaurant. Overnight at hotel until late airport transfer.
DAY 08
Transfer to Airport.
Includes everything from meeting upon arrival till transfer back to airport for departure except beer and soft drinks.
